The Washington Memorial School of Pipes & Drums was the driving force in launching Philadelphia & District Pipe Band in 2020. Along with The Cameron Highlanders of Lafayette Hill and The Philadelphia Emerald Society Pipe Band, the band was formed as a regional competition pipe band. The band provides opportunity for accomplished pipers and drummers from across the Delaware Valley to unite and compete in Grade 4 Pipe Band competitions.

Under the direction of Pipe Major Dan Emery, and the drumming instruction of Sophia McConnell from the Grade 2 Ulster Scottish Pipe Band, Philadelphia & District’s goal is to advance the quality of piping and drumming in the region and to help grow the band to national prominence. The Washington Memorial School is vigorously developing novice players to be able to perform in parades and shows and ultimately compete with Philadelphia & District, if they choose to do so. All levels of players are welcome to join, including absolute beginners! PDPB’s recently won First Place in both the MSR and Selection Medley at The Central NY Highland Games in Liverpool NY. August 2022. Next up is getting ready for the band's second season in 2023, starting with Southern MD Highland Games in April 2023.
